One killed in clash over stealing paddy from mosque

A sexagenarian man was killed and seven others were injured in a clash centering the stealing of paddy from a mosque in Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi on Saturday night. 

The deceased was identified as Kobbas Ali, 60, resident of Khoira Matikata village of the upazila.

Al Amin Biswas, Chairman of Mougachhi Union  Parishad said that Saddam Hossain (20), nephew of Kobbas Ali stole 20 kilograms of paddy from the local mosque. President of the Mosque Management Committee settled the incident of stealing in consultation with Kobbas Ali. 

But, the devotees did not agree with the settlement rather they locked into a clash with Kobbas Ali and his supporters. 

At least eight persons from both sides including Kobbas Ali and his two sons were injured in the clash. Injured persons were rushed to local health complex where the on duty doctors pronounced Kobbas Ali dead. 

Spokesperson of Rajshahi District Police Iftekhayer Alam said, police visited the spot and brought the situation of the area under control. Some of the injured people have been admitted to the local health complex and at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. 

Police started drive against the persons involved with the murder, he added.
