A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision between the auto-rickshaw and a private car on the Chandpur-Cumilla highway in front of Aliganj Majumdar Bari area under Haziganj upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Ruhul Amin, 40, son of Sirajul Haque, resident of Dhopalla village under Shahrasti upazila of the district. The accident occurred in the area when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a private car coming from the opposite direction around 8.30am, leaving the driver of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and injuring two other passengers, officer-in-charge (OC) of Haziganj Police Station Muhammad Abdur Rashid said. Among the injured, Kaniz Fatima Anika was taken to a local hospital and another Ferdous Akhtar was sent to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) for better treatment, he said.
Police seized both the vehicles from the spot.
A case was filed in the connection, the OC added.
