A man was arrested with horse meat in Rupganj of Narayanganj on Tuesday.
The arrested is Fayez Mia (35) of Austagram in Kishoreganj.
According to police, around 3 AM, Ansar members noticed a suspicious CNG autorickshaw on Road 306, Plot 5 in Purbachal. As they approached, 7–8 individuals fled, but one was caught. Inside the plot, they discovered five slaughtered horses with meat being processed.
The Ansar team immediately contacted police through the emergency helpline 999. Purbachal Ansar Commander Abul Hossain stated that horse meat was being sold at around Tk 250 per kg, significantly cheaper than beef, which is around Tk 750 per kg—suggesting a motive of higher profit through deceit.
The incident has caused widespread concern among locals. Rupganj Police OC Md. Tarikul Islam confirmed the arrest and said efforts to capture the remaining suspects are ongoing.
