A suspect in the murder case of Md Mohiuddin has been arrested with weapons in front of the Gaffar Colony of Kalpalok Residential arrea in the Bakalia police station area of Chattogram city over a dispute over drug dealing.

DB police said that the reason for the murder was a dispute over the dominance of drugs.

A team of the CMP's DB North-South Division conducted a drive in the Rahattarpul Khalpar area on Sunday night and arrested the young man named Md. Sumon (19).

The deceased Mohiuddin is the son of Mohammad Hossain in Barumchhara union of Anwara upazila. He lived with his wife and family in Kalamia Bazar Mosque lane in Bakalia. On July 25, around 5 pm, local residents found Mohiuddin's body in front of the Gaffar Colony of Kalpalok Residential area. There were bullet marks on various parts of the head and body. Blood stains were spread next to the body.  The next day, the deceased's brother filed a murder case at the Bakalia police station.

Sumon is the son of Md. Jamal in Muradnagar, Comilla. He had been involved in Bakalia's drug trade from a rented house in Daulatkhan Colony for a long time.

However, another accused involved in the incident, Md. Asif (26), escaped, said SI Fazle Rabbi Kaiser, who led the operation.

According to the DB police, Sumon admitted in the initial interrogation that there was an old enmity between them. The dispute over the area under control for drug sales was growing. Although Mohiuddin had given up the drug trade earlier, he had influence in the area. Therefore, Asif and Sumon found Mohiuddin alone on the day of the incident as planned and shot him. Then they dragged the body behind Abu Saudagar Colony on the eastern side of the canal. There, they buried the body under a pile of bricks and covered it up.

CMP Deputy Police Commissioner (DB-North) Md. Habibur Rahman said that the weapon recovered from Sumon is a KF 7.65 model. It is not available in the local market and could have entered the country through international arms smuggling rings.
