One dies of Covid-19 in Rangpur

One more Covid-19 patient died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Friday raising the number of coronavirus fatalities to 1,241 in Rangpur division.

"The new Covid-19 casualty was reported after seven days, as zero Covid-19 fatality was recorded in the past week in the division," Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said.

The district-wise breakup of the 1,241 fatalities currently stands at 293 in Rangpur, 80 in Panchagarh, 89 in Nilphamari, 68 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in Kurigram, 253 in Thakurgaon, 326 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the division.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 55,327 as four new patients were diagnosed after testing 190 samples at a positivity rate of 2.11 percent on Friday in the division. The daily positivity rate has been remaining below the five percent mark during the past more than one month in the division. "The district-wise break up of total 55,327 patients include 12,466 of Rangpur, 3,806 Panchagarh, 4,443 of Nilphamari, 2,739 of Lalmonirhat, 4,639 of Kurigram, 7,622 of Thakurgaon, 14,753 of Dinajpur and 4,859 of Gaibandha in the division," he added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of 2,92,815 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 55,327 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 18.89 percent in the division.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 53,017 with recovery of 12 more infected patients on Friday in the division. The average recovery rate currently stands at 95.82 percent in the division. The 53,017 recovered patients include 11,396 of Rangpur, 3,677 Panchagarh, 4,350 Nilphamari, 2,625 Lalmonirhat, 4,527 Kurigram, 7,297 Thakurgaon, 14,359 in Dinajpur and 4,786 Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the 55,327 patients, 57 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 11 critical patients at ICU beds and seven at High Dependency Unit beds. With the recovery of 53,017 patients and 1,241 deaths, currently 1,012 people are remaining in home isolation.  "Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 46,75,662, and among them, 27,92,277 got the second dose of the jab till Friday in the division," he said.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said the Covid-19 situation continues to improve steadily in Rangpur division.  "However, everyone should remain aware and abide by the health directives to prevent another probable wave of the lethal virus in winter," he said.
