Police have arrested a man named Shamim Malita (22) with a homemade firearm, one round of ammunition, and two battery-powered rickshaw vans in Alamdanga, Chuadanga.
He was detained early Tuesday morning from Tiarbila village. Shamim is the son of Said Malita of the same village.
According to police, Sub-Inspector Sukanta Das, in-charge of the Tiarbila Police Camp, was on duty in the area with his team when they stopped two suspicious vans carrying 7–8 individuals. Upon being intercepted, several fled the scene, but Shamim was apprehended.
A search of his person led to the recovery of a locally-made one-shooter gun and one round of ammunition.
Alamdanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masudur Rahman confirmed that a case has been filed naming five individuals, along with 7–8 unnamed suspects. A police operation is ongoing to arrest the remaining accused.
