Police have arrested auto rickshaw driver Rubel Hossain (28), the main accused in the murder of Shahnaz Parveen Priyota (22), a student and trainee nurse of Government Mujib College in Companiganj upazila of Noakhali.
Police also recovered mobile and SIM card used by the deceased Priyota from him. He was arrested from Char rashid area of Subarnachar upazila on Friday morning on a tip-off.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Crime) Deepak Jyoti Khisa confirmed the information at a press conference on Friday.
Auto rickshaw driver Rubel Hossain is the foster son of Maqbool Ahmed of Ward no 7 of Basurhat Municipality. The deceased was identified as Shahnaz Parveen Priyota, daughter of Nur Nabi of Bhuiyarhat Bazar area of Ashrafpur village under Batia union of Kabirhat upazila.ASP Deepak Jyoti Khisa said that the accused admitted he had a greedy look on the girl for a long time during the interrogation. Coincidentally, when the victim got into his auto rickshaw to go to his grandfather's house that day, he took a different path. When the young woman protested and started walking down from the rickshaw, the accused Rubel grabbed her from behind and tied her mouth and raped her more than once. At that time, the young woman died of suffocation.
Using information technology we are able to arrest Ruble, ASP Deepak Jyoti Khisa said. During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed the murder after being raped. We will try to find out more details by questioning him in remand through requesting the judicial court.
Earlier, the police recovered the body of Shahnaz Parveen Priyota, an apprentice nurse and Honors Examiner of Government Mujib College from the paddy field in Ward no 7 of Basurhat Municipality of the upazila on February 28.
On March 1, the victim's father Nurunnabi filed a case in the Companiganj police station.
