OMS rice, flour supply inadequate in Munshiganj

Those involved in the OMS program said that rice and Flour are insufficient compared to the requirement. Due to the increase in the price of daily commodities in the country, the government started the OMS program thinking about the low-income people. In this program, the price of rice per kg is fixed at 30 taka and the price of Flour is 18 taka per kg. Nevertheless, every OMS center is visited, overflowing with low income people. Waiting in a long line hoping to get rice. It is known that 500 kg of rice and 500 kg of Flour are being sold in each center of Munshiganj. However, in the guidelines set by the government, it is mentioned that every OMS center should sell 1000 kg of rice and 1000 kg of Flour per day. On the surface, the opposite is seen. By doing so, the needs of the people are not being met. Many were seen waiting in long queues and returning home empty-handed. On the other hand, those who received rice and Flour returned home with a smile on their faces.

Labali Begum (37), who came to buy rice, said that because the price of rice in the OMS center is lower than in the market, we came here to buy rice. Standing in line for a long time. But the car has not arrived yet. We are happy with this activity. Thanks to the government. We have some advantage.

Sufia Begum (33), who did not get rice, said, I waited in a long line. After the arrival of the cereal, they said, 500 kg of rice and 500 kg of Flour have been used up. No more rice or glue was available today.

Md. Aslam and Md. Jahangir, who are in charge of Munsirhat Center of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila, said that the government is giving 500 kg of rice and 500 kg of Flour every day. Which is inadequate compared to the needs of low-income people. If we were given 1000 kg of rice and 1000 kg of Flour, it would be possible to give rice and Flour to all the people who come.

District Food Controller Dr Kamal Hossain, when contacted, said that OMS activities are being conducted in 30 centers including 20 OMS centers in Munshiganj Sadar Upazila and 2 each in other upazilas. The price has been fixed at Tk 30 per kg of rice and Tk 18 per kg of Flour. Each person can take 5 kg of rice and 5 kg of Flour.

This is earmarked for low income people. It has been decided to sell 1000 kg of rice and 1000 kg of Flour in each center. Necessary action will be taken in case of violation.
