An elderly man, Abdul Momin (68), died after a rooftop railing collapsed on him at a mosque in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 7 PM at Apuar Khata Jame Mosque in the Pandul Union. Momin was a resident of the area and the son of the late Rahim Uddin.
According to locals, Abdul Momin had just completed ablution and was entering the mosque for Maghrib prayers when a section of the rooftop cornice (railing) suddenly broke and fell on him. Fellow worshippers rushed to his aid but found him dead beneath the debris.
Neighbours said Momin was a regular at the mosque, located close to his home. Ulipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zillur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that the family has raised no complaints regarding the matter.
