Oil, sugar prices high, vegetables stable

The seems to be no respite to the continuous price hike of essential commodities including rice. Edible oil prices have risen in the space of a week. In addition, price of sugar has also gone up. 

Meanwhile, prices of vegetables, new potatoes and eggs have come down. On the other hand, prices of other commodities including rice, chicken, beef and mutton remained unchanged. 

During visits to different kitchen markets in the capital yesterday, including Karwan Bazar, this correspondent found such price variations of essential commodities.  

The retail price of cooking oil in the market has gone up by Taka 2 to Tk 5 per liter. Loose soyabean oil is being sold at Tk 127 to Tk 130. Price of sugar in the market has increased by Tk 5 per kg and is being sold at Tk 60.  

Yusuf, a trader at Karwan Bazar told this reporter, "The price per barrel of edible oil has gone up in the international market. Due to this, the retail market has increased from Tk 2 to Tk 5 per liter in a week."

The price of freshly harvested potatoes has come down. New potatoes are being sold at Tk 20 per kg while freshly harvested onions at Tk 40 per kg. Green chilies are being sold at Tk 90 per kg. Ginger is sold at Tk 60 per kg and garlic Tk 120 per kg.

In the vegetable markets, it was found that radish is selling at Tk 10 per kg, bean is selling at Tk 20 per kg, tomato is selling at Tk 40 per kg, turnip is selling at Tk 20 per kg, string bean cost Tk 40, brinjal is Tk 20, cucumber is Tk 40, parwal is Tk 50, papaya is Tk 30, bitter gourd is Tk 30, okra is Tk 30, and carrots are being sold at Tk 40 per kg, per piece of cauliflower and cabbage is now Tk 20, per piece gourd selling at Tk 30.    

Atash rice is being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 55 per kg, paijam at Tk 48 to Tk 50, Miniket at Tk 60 to Tk 65, Nazirshail variety of rice is sold at Tk 60 per kg.   

Meanwhile, sonali chicken is being sold at Tk 180 per kg while broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 130 per kg.

Beef and mutton price remain unchanged in these markets. Besides, prices of other products including spices have also remained stable.

Mutton is being sold at Tk 700 to Tk 750 per kg, beef at Tk 550 per kg and buffalo meat at Tk 550 to Tk 580 per kg. 

In these markets, per kg chital fish is sold at Tk 450 to Tk 500 per kg, Awn fish at Tk 500, Rohi is at Tk 250 to Tk 350 per kg, Katla at Tk 170 to Tk 280, Tilapia sold at Tk 130 to Tk 160, Boal fish at Tk 400 to Tk 500, Pangas is sold at Tk 100 to Tk 150, Pabda sold at Tk 280 to Tk 350, and Shing sold at Tk 300 to Tk 450 (based on quality and size).
