Officials, councillors of DNCC will be vigilant to eradicate dengue: Atiqul

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said that all levels of DNCC officials, including local councilors, would remain active in the field until aedes mosquitoes, dengue and chikungunya have been significantly eradicated.

This was stated by the DNCC Mayor in his speech as the chief guest at a public awareness program aimed at preventing Aedes mosquito, dengue and chikungunya in Beraid area of the capital on Sunday morning.

He said that no dengue patients have been identified in Ward No. 42 of the DNCC so far, so all those who are still dengue-free need to implement preventive measures so that no one suffers from dengue.

Md. Atiqul Islam said that in order to ensure a healthy environment for well-being, the slogan "Clean your house for 10 minutes every Saturday at 10 am" has to be implemented with the expectation of spontaneous participation by all.

The DNCC mayor said that, flower tubs, unused tires, coconut shells, open packets of chips, various types of open pots, roofs or other places should be taken care of so that water does not accumulate for more than three days. 

The mayor reiterated that rewards would be given to the depositor if these unused items were submitted to the nearest ward councilor's office.

He said that the most informative picture provider about the origin of the aedes mosquito would also be rewarded through the "Shobar Dhaka" mobile app.

He added that a financial reward of Tk 5 to 50 would be given for each unused commodity, depending on size, that has a risk of becoming a breeding ground. 

After his keynote address as the chief guest, he visited various areas of the DNCC's No. 10 area in an open truck equipped with various anti-aedes mosquito, dengue and chikungunya banners and festoons to raise public awareness among the city dwellers.

Among others, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Selim Reza, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Md. Jobaidur Rahman and local councilors were present.
