The government and private offices opened on Sunday after a long vacation on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr. A festive mood was prevailing at most of the offices. Officials and employees were seen exchanging Eid greetings and hugging one another. However, low attendance of staff was witnessed in the offices as many officers and employees did not return till Sunday. Officials said this situation would continue for the next couple of days.
Many people, especially the teenagers, are still enjoying the festivity of the Eid in the city. Those who joined in the work place on Sunday were busy with exchange of conversations with colleagues and Eid greetings. Eid joy in almost all the offices including Bangladesh Bank Chittagong Office, Court Building, Chittagong Port Authority, Customs, Shipping Corporation, Railway Eastern Office (CRB), Chittagong Development Authority, District Administration Office, Chittagong City Corporation.
Although the presence of the judges in the court building was normal, the presence of lawyers was less. There was less presence in the railway office. But all the sections are kept open. Eastern Railway officials joined the work All the banks opened in Agrabad, a commercial area of Chittagong. However, many private offices are still closed.
Before the Eid, the banks were opened in special system. So the very first day of opening the bank was not seen in the crowd. An official of Chittagong Port Authority said that the importers started supplying containers. Workers are also working on yard container handling. Besides, most of the 697 garment factories in the city and district did not open. However, workers and employees in some garment factories have joined the end of the Eid holiday.
