NUS completes 30 years of its journey

Nari Unnayan Shakti (NUS) is a voluntary organization, established in 14 August 1992. The goal of this organization is to empower of marginalized women, girls and children in Bangladesh. Yesterday on 14 August 2022, NUS completed 30 years of its journey to serve the people. NUS organized a view exchange meeting and cultural program to observe the day. Dr. Afroja Parvin, Executive Director of NUS presided over the meeting. NUS chairperson Sehely Jahan attended as the Chief guest and Adviser Dr. Sultan Muhammad Razzak as the special guest on the occasion.  

Till date, NUS implemented 79 development projects in 23 districts of Bangladesh with the support of 44 national and international donors and partners agencies and provided services among 16 lac poor people of the country. A total of 1,04,000 adult learners got non formal education under Basic literacy project. NUS also provided non-formal education, vocational training and stipend to 4,500 hazardous child labourers.

NUS has ensured access to treatment of Malaria among 16 lac people in Chattogram district from 2007 to 2020 for 14 years long. NUS has freely distributed 15 lac 71 thousand Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLIN) and dipped 14 lac used nets into malaria preventive medicine under the services of Malaria Control and Prevention Program.

Under HIV/AIDS Prevention Program, activities were done among 10,000 sex workers and 2 lac clients of sex workers. Vocational and Non-Formal Education provided to 2,126 sex workers through Drop-in–Centre (DIC) under social rehabilitation program for the sex workers.

NUS worked on child sexual abuse and domestic violence prevention and victim support program with the financial assistance of SARIQ, AED, USAID-India. In this regard, NUS was established a Mock Trial Court at its Banasree Office premise to support the victims of sexual abuse, rape and domestic violence. Mock Trial sessions were being held for the victims with the chaired of a Judge and two Prosecutors. Free legal aid and mock trial services were provided to 169 raped victims.

Everybody discussed the afford and achievement of NUS since last 30 years and solemnly took oath to take forward the organization for the wellbeing of country and people.
