There are over 50 dead trees scattered in the area of the newly constructed conference room (auditorium) premises of the Upazila Parishad at Mirzaganj in Patuakhali. Due to these trees not being removed, the locals are fearing a big accident if they fall any time. Due to these dead trees, pedestrians and vehicles are moving at risk.

Pedestrians, vehicles and people coming for services at the Upazila Parishad on the Barisal-Barguna highway passing through the front of the auditorium are breaking pulses in the light wind from time to time. As a result, the dead trees in the Upazila Parishad premises have become a death trap.

According to the locals, the dead trees belong to the Upazila Parishad. Due to their age, these trees have been devastated by cyclone Ampan from the cyclone Sidar of 2008 and the trees of 2020. Which now dries up and breaks the big twigs in a little wind on people and vehicles. Even though no major accident has taken place so far, fatalities can happen at any moment. Locals complained that the Upazila Parishad was not removing the dead dead trees indifferently.

They further said that there was no benefit in informing the concerned authorities to remove the dead trees. The dead trees have been standing like this for years. At the risk of their lives, vehicles, pedestrians and people coming to the Upazila Parishad for services are moving on the road.

A few local rickshaw and auto drivers said they had to drive on the road every day at the risk of their lives. A few days ago, a rickshaw driver and a passenger in a rickshaw were rescued after a light branch broke a tree branch. That is why their panic has increased.

In this regard, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mosa: Tania Ferdous said, "Since it will be allowed to be cut, we have sent the documents to the concerned authorities long ago." The trees will be cut down as soon as permission is given.

Mirzaganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Khan Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddiqui said there was a danger of people walking on the road as the trees were dying. When I myself come here from time to time, people gather. Then I am afraid when a dead tree or a branch of a tree falls on my head. An application has already been made to the concerned authorities to cut down the trees. Dead trees will be removed soon.
