Number of millionaires nears 1 lakh in Bangladesh

Even in the Covid-19 and other crises, the income of the rich has not decreased. As a result, the number of millionaire depositors is increasing in the country.

According to the latest estimates, the number of accounts with deposits of more than Tk 1 crore in banks stands at 99,918. Before the outbreak of the pandemic in March last year there number was 82,625 in the country. 

In other words, 17293 account worth of crores of Tk increased in the country during the pandemic situation.

This information was obtained by reviewing the June 2021 update report of the Central Bank.

On March 8 last year, coronavirus was detected in the country. Lockdown-Restriction begins. Most businesses closed. The pandemic has had a negative impact on the economy of countries like the rest of the world. Many have lost their jobs and many were at risk of losing their jobs. Even in such a situation, the number of deposits with crores of amount is increasing.

According to the Bangladesh Bank, with an amount of Tk 1439763.27 crore a total of 121549266 accounts were opened in the banking sector till June 2021.

At the end of June this year, the account of crores of rupees stood at 99,918. A total of Tk 634676 crore was deposited in these accounts. 

According to the data analysis, 10,051 new millionaires have been added to the country’s banking sector from January to December 2020 in the wake of the Covid-19. At that time, the deposits in the millionaires accounts had increased by more than Tk 68000 crore. 

Meanwhile, in the first six months of this year (January-June) the number of millionaires increased by 6,028 

and deposits increased by Tk 39,390 crore. In January this year, with a deposit of Tk 595268 crore there were 93,890 millionaire accounts in commercial banks.
