The National University is going to publish a white paper outlining corruption over the previous 16 years in response to the recent changes in university leadership. This action follows the August 28 appointment of ASM Amanullah, a professor of sociology at Dhaka University, as vice chancellor.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Vice-Chancellor Amanullah vowed to tackle past corruption and irregularities at the university. He emphasised his commitment to fighting pressure and lobbying, promising to prioritise the interests of the university's 3.5 million students, around one lakh faculty members, and approximately 2,500 colleges.
Amanullah announced plans to publish a comprehensive white paper covering the activities of the National University from 2008 to 2024. He also pledged to conduct independent audits of each affiliated college to expose financial misconduct.
He expressed a strong resolve to seek justice for families of students killed during the anti-discrimination protests and to address wrongful dismissals through legal channels.
Amanullah urged for patience and minimal interference as he focuses on improving the university's standards. He criticised the culture of bribery and corruption and expressed his goal to elevate the National University to the level of Dhaka University.
He concluded by denouncing violence, corruption, and disrespect within the university, stating firmly that such issues will not be tolerated under his administration.
