The non-residential students of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) are facing problems to pay the rent of mess though the students are not staying in the mess for long time as the campus is closed for the Corona outbreaks. They demand quick solution on this issue of paying mess rent.
According to the statements of the students, they are not staying in the mess for a long time as the campus is closed for the Corona outbreaks, but the mess owners are forcing them to pay the rent even misbehave with them in some cases.
Moreover, for students working as private tutors for financial support, paying rent of their mess has become a huge burden as their income sources are closed due to corona epidemic.
They want quick solution and combined decision from the university administration, local administration and the mess owners on this issue.
According to the statements of the mess owners, they also want a solution for this problem from the university and local administration and they will act according to the decision.
In this issue, NSTU Proctor Prof. Dr. Newaz Mohammad Bahadur said, the university administration has discussed about the matter with the local administration to solve it. But it did not show any positive impact.
On this point, the proctor said, the university administration can not do more than that at this moment as no one of the university administration are present in Noakhali.
NSTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Didar-ul-Alam said, the matter has been discussed with the local administration. At this moment, it is not possible for the university to give financial support to all the students as the university cost has increased a lot for corona testing but the students who need help can submit an application to the University Registrar in this regard.
Highlighting the overall issue, Noakhali DC Tanmoy Das said, "We have talked to the university administration about this issue and it will be discussed again later in the light of the demands of the students and the decision will be informed then”.
