NSTU starts research to decode genome sequence of Covid-19

Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) has started research work for unveiling the genome sequence of 100 coronavirus samples at Covid-19 Diagnostic Lab of NSTU. This research is conducted by the joint initiative of  NSTU and the Genome Research Institute of  North South University.

The information was published in a notice on Wednesday signed by NSTU Public Relations Officer Iftekhar Hossain.

From  the notice, it is known that, this research activity is going on with the involvement of NSTU VC  Professor Dr. Md. Didar-ul-Alam, NSTU Microbiology Department's Chairman Prof. Dr. Firoz Ahmed, NSTU Covid-19 Diagnostic Centre Coordinator Prof. Dr. Newaz Mohammed Bahadur, Dr. Mohammad Maqsud Hossain, Director of Genome Research Institute of North South University and Professor Hasan Mahmud Reza, Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences of North South University.

It was also mentioned in the notice that, NSTU has extracted DNA of 30 Corona samples and sent these extracted samples to the Genome Research Institute of North South University for genome sequencing. The researchers have been able to identify the genome sequence of 8 extracted samples. They hope that, this research will play a vital role in the development of Corona Vaccine.
