MyFuelPump has introduced an online platform to provide mobile fuel solutions for businesses and homes.

“The idea is something that is very new to Bangladesh. It was generated last April during lockdown for the pandemic when everyone was at home and gradually opening up to the online world.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina dreams of a digital Bangladesh, and to uphold that dream, boosted by the lifestyle changes due to the pandemic, we decided to digitalize this sector,” said Partha Pratim Choudhury, founder and managing director of MyFuelPump.

He shared that setting up this idea came across some obstacles like adjusting an idea of today with the Petroleum Act of 1934 was not easy, but they were heavily supported by the concerned legal departments for this initiative.

The founder told Bangladesh Post that the app would help resolve many fuel handling problems such as spilling, adulteration, mix-up, theft etc which are common. In the app, the whole system is automated and all the information is notified in the app and also via text or mail to the customer directly from the company maintaining total transparency.

“We are not really here to sell fuel; we are here with a solution,” said Partha Pratim Choudhury while addressing the objective of the app. “We are not only eliminating the extra time and effort, but we guarantee the quantity because our tankers and meters are certified by the BSTI. We even provide a 10 liter jar so that if someone wants, they can measure it themselves,” he added.

Choudhury has been in the business of petrol for years through the Ramna petrol pump which happens to be the source of the online platform. The app is charging an additional Tk 2 per liter with no transport or delivery charges.

“Buying fuel of that quantity always came with some costs like carrying costs or hiring someone to do it. An order would cost just 200tk for a 100 liter order which is not a very significant amount. So considering effort and surety, we believe it would be cost effective and a satisfactory experience,” claimed the founder.

The app has also seen a great demand for petrol and octane in feedback and is looking to work towards it eventually if supported by the government. As future prospects, the app will also be home to Beximco’s LPG services delivering it directly to homes.

Another initiative that is being considered is car maintenance and servicing at emergencies acting as a helpline

The app can be used to order only diesel at the moment. There is no maximum limit to place an order but the minimum is a limit of 100 liters which are orders for generators used in households. The app covers Dhaka alongside Savar and Gazipur for now, and is ambitious to expand throughout the country soon.
