Norwegian Embassy collaborates with DUFS for climate-themed film festival

The Norwegian Embassy has joined Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) in organizing the 15th International Inter-University Short Film Festival (IIUSFF). The theme of this year’s festival is "Youth-led Climate Action''. 

With the slogan, ‘Take Your Camera, Frame Your Dream,’ the International Inter-University Short Film Festival (also known as IIUSFF) started its journey back in 2007. 

This year, the 15th edition of the festival, has witnessed a huge turn-out of student filmmakers around the world, with a staggering total of 1671 films from 96 countries. 

"The 15th edition of IIUSFF is being organized with support from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangladesh.l and UNDP Bangladesh. Our goal is to use the power of cinema to amplify the call for urgent climate action," said Teertha Protim Das, President, DUFS. 

"For more than a decade, we, at DUFS, have been striving to promote the artistry and vision of student filmmakers through this festival," he added. IIUSFF, the biggest short film festival catering to student filmmakers in Bangladesh and beyond, has set its sights on a mission to raise awareness about the pressing global issue of climate change. With a dedicated vision, the festival aims to ignite the passion of today's youth, urging them to seize control of their destiny through the captivating art of filmmaking. The festival promises a diverse and dynamic program, featuring a plethora of engaging events. These will include film screenings, in-depth panel discussions, informative publications, art camps, exhibitions and much more.

The grand opening of the festival will be held on 6 November, 2023, and the award-giving ceremony will be held on 8 November, 2023, at the TSC premises, University of Dhaka.

Moreover, a total of 180 films, officially selected from 1671 films, will be screened countrywide throughout the month of November. 

The selected films from the submissions will be screened over 7 divisions (Dhaka, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi and Barisal) of the country, including 10 university campuses. The closing ceremony will be held on 30 November at Star Cineplex, Bashundhara City.
