The flood situation in the country is improving although the central part of the country is still flooded as well as the flood situation in the north has improved.
Normalcy started returning in flood-affected areas as many displaced people are returning homes following further improvement in the flood situation.
Water Development Board (WDB) Flood Forecasting and Warning Center Executive Engineer Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan said the overall flood situation in the country is improving.
However, the water of 14 rivers is still flowing over the danger level of 20 regions of the country. The water of the Brahmaputra, one of the most flood-prone rivers, have fallen below the danger level.
However, the water of Jamuna in Sariakandi, Sirajganj and Aricha areas, the water of Gur River in Singra, the water of Atrai in Baghabari, the water of Dhaleshwari in Elasin, the water of Balu River in Demra, the water of Shitalakhya River in Narayanganj, the water of Turag River in Mirpur, the water of Tongi canal, The water of Bangshi River is flowing over the danger level.
In a forecast, WDB said the water level in the Brahmaputra is declining further. The water of Jamuna is also decreasing. The water level in these rivers will be declining till Saturday.
The water of Padma will also decrease till Saturday. The main river in the Upper Meghna Basin in the northeast, excluding the Manu River, will recede by next Saturday. Besides, the water of rivers and canals around the capital will also start decreasing.
On the other hand, flood situation in Bogra, Sirajganj, Tangail, Natore, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Faridupar, Madaripur, Chandpur, Rajbari, Shariatpur, Dhaka and Narayanganj districts will improve by Saturday.
About 4 million people have been affected and thousands of people marooned by the floods since the end of June. The low-lying areas of about 25 districts have been flooded.
