‘None would remain hungry during present govt’s regime’

Awami League (AL) Presidium Member and 14-party alliance spokesperson Mohammed Nasim on Sunday said none would remain hungry during the tenure of the present government, reports BSS.

“None would remain hungry during the tenure of Awami League government. Prime Ministry Sheikh Hasina continues providing food assistance to the destitute people and giving incentives to different sectors, including agriculture, health, export oriented industries and readymade garment, to keep the socio-economic condition stable amid the COVID-19,” he said.

The AL leader came up with the remarks while he was distributing Prime Minister’s gift items to the poor people of Alem society under the humanitarian assistance programme at his constituency area at Kazipur in Shirajganj on Sunday.

The number of jobless people is increasing in about all countries while emergency situation is also continuing in many countries across the globe due to the COVId-19, Nasim said, adding but Bangladesh has been fighting COVID-19 with the head high under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

Expressing hope that the whole world, including Bangladesh, would be free from COVID-19 soon, the 14-party spokesperson urged the people to stay indoors following the prime minister’s directives to combat the coronavirus situation.

Later, Nasim held a view-exchange with government officials and local public representatives at Upazila Parishad hall room here maintaining the provision of social distancing.

In the meeting, he urged the officials and public representatives to implement the provisions of lockdown properly to slow down the spread of COVID-19.

Kazipur Upazila Chairman Khalilur Rahman Siraji, Sirajganj Water Development Board Executive Engineer Shafiqul Islam, Kazipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Zahid Hasan Siddiqui, Sirajganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sarker Asim and Kazipur Upazila AL President Shawkat Hossain were present at the meeting, among others.
