Nomination seekers active

Nomination seekers for the elections are already active in the field and holding various meetings, processions and public contacts to drum up support and popularity. 

It is learnt, at least 10 aspirants from the ruling Awami League and six from the opposition BNP are active in the constituency to bag nominations in their favour for the post of Member of Parliament from Rajshahi-5 (Puthia-Durgapur) constituency. 

Among the AL nomination seekers, Ahsanul Haque Masud, Organising Secretary of Rajshahi district Awami League is learnt to operate various political activities in the constituency and is making contact with the party high-ups to be nominated as an MP candidate. 

The two-time Member of Parliament and General Secretary of district AL, Abdul Wadud Dara, is also learnt to be active in the constituency through holding various political programmes and humanitarian activities.  

Abdul Wadud Dara was elected as Member of Parliament in 2008 and 2014, but he was deprived of a nomination during the last Parliamentary Elections. 

Incumbent MP Dr Monsur Rahman is learnt to remain a candidate of choice both from the local people, local political leaders and from the policy makers in Dhaka to contest the poll as a candidate from the ruling AL. Dr. Monsur Rahman during the last elections, managed the ticket of Boat by surprising the local voters and political leaders. He is now a Member of the Sub-Committee for Health and Population Affairs of AL. 

Moreover, Badiul Islam Tapos, son of former MP Tajul Islam Mohammad Faruque is also a possible nomination seeker from AL.

Meanwhile, Abu Bakar Siddik Convener of Puthia Upazila BNP is likely to contest as a candidate from the party in the Rajshahi-5 constituency. Abu Bakar Siddik was a leader of the Central Committee of Chhatra Dal. He also sought nomination from the constituency during the last elections.

BNP leader Nazrul Islam Mondal is the former Upazila Chairman of Puthia and was nominated to contest the MP elections two times from BNP earlier. He is also a possible candidate from BNP.  

Former BNP MP and central leader of the party Nadim Mostafa is also likely to contest with the symbol 'sheaf of paddy' in the JS elections. Nadim Mostafa is former President of Rajshahi district BNP and he was elected MP from Rajshahi-5 constituency in 1995 and 2001. 

Among others, local industrialist Khairul Haque Shimul, BNP leader Sirajul Karim Sonu, BNP leader Mahbuba Habiba and Jatiya Party leader Abul Hossain are also learnt to be active in the constituency and they all are likely to seek nominations from their respective party high-ups.
