Bangladesh recorded 13,768 new Covid-19 infections till 8am Monday, breaking the previous record of single-day infections while registering 220 more deaths from the virus.
On July 11, 11,874 people contracted the virus. The total number of people infected has reached 10,34,957, with the new cases.
This is the highest number of infections recorded in the span of a single day since March 8, when the first case of coronavirus was detected.
The country registered 220 more deaths from Covid-19 in the meantime, taking the death toll to 16,639, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday.
The death rate now stands at 1.61 percent in the country, added the release.
The current positivity rate stands at 31.24 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 14.75 percent.
Among the 220 deceased, 142 were men, and 78 were women. Of the victims, 107 died in different hospitals across the country while 13 died at home.
64 of the deceased were from the Dhaka division, 55 from Khulna, 37 from Chattogram, 23 from Rajshahi, 18 from Rangpur, 13 from Mymensingh, six from Sylhet and four from Barishal division.
A total of 44,067 samples were tested across the country till 8am Monday.
During this period 7,020 Covid-19 patients have recovered. Up until now, a total of 8,81,521 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 85.17 percent.
As of Monday, 4,051,415 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 187,756,582 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
