NOC mandatory for new captive power plant

Industrialists will have to collect No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Power Division to build captive power plant for their industries. However, NOC in this regard will not be necessary for textile and garments industry due to their significant role in export, employment and national income.

Recently the Power Division has issued an order in this regard.

Captive power plant is such power plant which is built by industrialists for supply of electricity in their own industries. Currently the country’s total captive power generation capacity is around 3,000 megawatt (MW). Petrobangla supplies required amount of gas for the power plants.

An official said the country’s electricity generation capacity is increasing day by day. Currently total generation capacity is around 20,000MW.

But maximum electricity demand is around 12,000MW.

`The government wants to supply the excess electricity to the industrial sector. To this end, the initiative has been taken. Ultimately the government is discouraging new captive power plant where grid electricity is available,’ he added.

However, industrialists want uninterrupted power supply for smooth production in their factories. The Power Division has taken several initiatives to supply uninterrupted electricity. It is expected that the initiatives will be implemented in a short time.
