Bangladeshi nationals stranded in India could not return to the country, even yesterday, through Chuadanga Darshana International Check post.

They were not allowed to return to their home as they did not receive 'No Objection Certificate (NOC)' from the embassy.

No Bangladeshi citizen could get through this check post till 3 pm on Monday although they were supposed to start returning from Sunday, a day before yesterday. Immigration authorities had taken all kinds of preparations for this occasion.

Meanwhile, Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner, Nazrul Islam Sarkar and Superintendent of Police Zahidul Islam visited the Darshana check post on Monday afternoon.

According to Darshana immigration sources, Bangladeshi nationals stranded there could not enter the country as they did not receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Indian embassy. Therefore, none returned to the country through Darshana check post till 3 pm on Monday.

Abdul Alim, Darshana Jaynagar Check Post Immigration In-Charge Sub-Inspector (SI) said, "Sanjid Kumar, in-charge of Gede International Check Post in India, has been contacted. He said no Bangladeshi passport holders have come to Gede International Checkpoint till this afternoon. They will be sent to Bangladesh once they get clearance from the embassy."

Monira Parveen, convener and additional deputy commissioner (overall) of the sub-committee on Corona control and prevention, said, "The Bangladesh embassy in Kolkata, India had been contacted. They have sent us a list of the names of 51 people. However, it was not announced when the stranded Bangladeshis would be able to return to the country."

Mobassher Rahman, a resident of Uthli Bazar in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga. He is unable to return home after his mother was treated in Kolkata, India.

"My mother is suffering from cancer. I came to Kolkata for treatment a month and a half ago. I came here this morning to apply for clearance from the Bangladesh embassy in Kolkata. There are more than 400 Bangladeshis standing in line to submit the required documents. I could manage to submit it at 1pm."

He added that no vehicles were available to reach the embassy due to severe lockdown in Kolkata. It is very difficult to take NOC amid lockdown.

Earlier, a meeting of the Chuadanga District Committee on 'Coronavirus Control and Prevention' was held at the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Room on Saturday. It was decided at the meeting that after entering the Darshana check post, the passengers who come to Bangladesh after completing the necessary formalities will be tested there.

The patients affected by Corona will be sent in isolation to Sadar Hospital and the rest will be kept in quarantine.

Initially Nursing Institute and Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex have been selected as quarantine centers. Passengers will be transported to the Isolation and Quarantine Center on scheduled transport under strict security arrangements. Everyone living in quarantine has to bear the cost of accommodation and meals. Passports of those entering the country will remain in police custody.

Passport will be returned at the end of quarantine after clearance of Civil Surgeon.

A seven-member monitoring committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) Monira Parveen has been formed to oversee the entire process.
