Noapara shipping workers go on strike for 11-point demand

River route workers went on strike from Tuesday to press home their 11-point demand, which includes safety on river routes, stopping of illegal toll collection, robbery and extortion, the implementation of the 2016 wage structure fixed for the workers of passenger carriers, free food for all workers or food allowance at Noapara river port in Jashore.

Noapara unit of Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Federation (BNSF) called for the strike from Tuesday night.

General Secretary of BNSF Riko Miah said that social safety and the implementation of the 2016 wage structure fixed for the workers has not implemented yet, though we are demanding continuously. We are compelled to call this strike.

However, more than 300 Ships and Cargo goods are halted as there are no river route workers have seen. The river port has become quiet.
