‘No substitute to globally certified skills for competition in export market’

BASIS sign agreement with UK-based Chartered Institute for IT

Speakers at an agreement signing ceremony said that there is no substitute to internationally certified skills for remaining competitive at the export as well as local market ahead of Bangladesh's journey towards embracing the 4IR technologies at the optimum. 

The signing ceremony of training accreditation agreement between Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and the United Kingdom based BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT took place  on Thursday at the opening session of ‘Bangladesh Investment Summit 2021: Building Sustainable Growth Partnership’.

The summit was organized by Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The signing between BASIS and BCS has taken place with the presence of Syed Almas Kabir, President of BASIS and Lucy Ireland MBCS, Managing Director of BCS Learning & Development Ltd, and Stephen Tweed, International Onboarding & Support, BCS L&D. 

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina witnessed the signing as the Chief Guest of the programme.

BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir said there is no substitute to internationally certified skills for remaining competitive at the export as well as local market ahead of Bangladesh's journey towards embracing the 4IR technologies at the optimum. 

He further informed that export earnings of Bangladesh IT/ITES sector have already reached to US$ 1.3 billion while, domestic market now stands at US$ 1.4 billion, creating about 1 million jobs here. 

Maintaining this continuity, it is important to acquire global-standard skills by advancing ICT sector of Bangladesh, he added. To achieve this goal, BASIS signed the agreement for implementing internationally recognized capacity programs through BASIS Institute of Technology & Management (BITM). 

Through this agreement, individuals involved in local ICT will have the opportunity to participate in advanced ICT training programs to acquire 4IR cutting-edge skills accredited by the United Kingdom based BCS.

The vision of the agreement is to fulfill the necessity of equipping Bangladesh's ICT industry with modern skills and providing IT-related professional certifications spanning from artificial intelligence to software testing. 

Bangladesh's ICT sector will progress one step further by signing this agreement, said BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir. More to that, implementation of this agreement will increase client confidence in Bangladesh's ICT industry and its human resources, he added.

Private Sector Industry and Investment Adviser to Prime Minister Salman F Rahman, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Md Sirazul Islam, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and BSEC Chairman Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, Bangladesh Export Processing Area Authority (BEPZA) Executive Chairman Major General Md Nazrul Islam and Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Saida MunaTasnim were also present in the inaugural ceremony of the summit.
