Nazmussakib, JnU

Jagannath University (JnU) administration has not taken any action even though it has  been issued directives from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) to impede coronavirus.

DSHE has issued special instructions to combat the virus as no schools, colleges, madrasas or universities in the country now require temporary suspension. The director general of DSHE Golam Faruk gave this instruction to make the students and others aware of it.

Jagannath University (JnU) students are not getting the opportunity, though strict instructions are given to wash their hands with soap and water at least 20 seconds first to prevent coronavirus.

In the 36 departments of the university and the institute, in situ, we found hand wash and sanitizer in washrooms of several departments, but there is no sanitizer or hand wash or sanitizer or tissue paper in 32 departments, which is needed for cleaning.

At a meeting of the National Committee on the Prevention of Coronavirus in the Health Department, Health Minister Zahid Malek suggested avoiding public meetings, saying that all kinds of social events, including sports, religious ceremonies, should be restricted.  Apart from this, awareness must be raised on all initiatives in schools, colleges, universities, offices, courts and everywhere.  Wash hands with soap and hand wash.

Although there is no situation like closure of schools and colleges but adequate hand wash should be provided in the educational institutions.  But there is not enough hand wash in the washroom of Jagannath University, the country's leading educational institution.

About 22,000 people are in this university on a seven-acre area with a total of students, teachers and staff.  Which is creating a high risk for regular students.

"We are at risk of getting coronavirus," said Rakibul Huda Roni, a student in the department of Management Studies.  All the educational institutions have been instructed by the government to provide adequate hand wash but this is not implemented in our university.

When asked about the role of the university administration in preventing coronavirus, Dr.  Ohiduzzaman told that no official instructions had been reached on the matter.  We have no plans to prevent this from happening right now.
