Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) issued a statement on Thursday in the wake of a confusion created by different news items published by media outlets about the announcement of lockdown in Bashundhara R/A stating that no specific instruction has been given yet about the zone-wise lockdown in the capital’s hotspots.
The DNCC in its statement said that the zonal lockdown will be announced in phases only after getting the detailed mapping from the health ministry.
People living in Bashundhara R/A were puzzled when some people announced that specific area was to be put into lockdown from Thursday night following a meeting arranged by Nazrul Islam Dhali, the Councilor of Ward-40, where he assured attendants of doing everything to implement the lockdown.
“The health ministry has not given any specific order in connection with the zone-wise lockdown yet. Nazrul Islam Dhali’s such overenthusiastic activities created confusion among the people living there,” the statement read.
Earlier, the government decided to divide different areas of the country into three zones - red, yellow and green - in terms of the intensity of coronavirus infection to stem the spread of the deadly disease.
According to the plan, strict lockdown will be imposed in ‘red zones’ to control further spread of the novel coronavirus aiming to reduce the number of patients until it turns to a ‘yellow zone’. Some restrictions will also be applicable for ‘yellow zones’ with a view to turning it into a ‘green zone’.
However, the authorities concerned must ensure some facilities - home delivery for essential items like food and medicines, distribution of food to lower income groups, ambulance service, isolation centre, coronavirus test booths and burial facilities - before implementing total lockdown in ‘red zones’.
Later Local Government and Rural Development Minister Md Tajul Islam also instructed the local committees of the ministry to take necessary preparations in this regard.
As of today, health authorities confirmed the detection of record 3803 new patients and 38 new deaths in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 1,02,292 and deaths to 1,343.
