Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said there is no specific security threats in the upcoming 12th parliamentary elections.
He made this remarks after holding a meeting with the chief election commissioner (CEC) and other commissioners at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon on Thursday.
The police chief further said intelligence agencies have been deployed everywhere.
If any threat is identified, necessary measures will be taken, he warned.
He also said,"We have spoken to the CEC. Whenever elections come, everyone, including the law and order forces, comes under the Election Commission. “
We work according to EC guidelines," the IGP stated.
"We do what is necessary according to the law to make the election free and fair. We are determined to act as per the instructions of the EC. We hope to hold a free and fair election as per EC guidelines," he added.
Despite the shutdowns and blockades enforced by the BNP and like-minded opposition groups, the police have diligently worked to ensure public safety, allowing people to go about their daily lives normally, according to the IGP.
