Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam on Thursday said the deadline of nomination form submission for the upcoming polls will not be extended.
"The deadline for the submission of nomination papers ended at 4 pm today (Thursday). Bangladesh Election Commission thinks that there is no scope to extend the deadline of nomination paper submission for the 12th national elections," he told a press conference at NirbachanBhaban in the capital’s Agargaon area.
The EC secretary said the aspirants have already submitted their nomination papers to the returning officers and assistant returning officers and on Friday it will be able to disclose that how many parties are taking part in the 12th national polls on January 7.
About the electoral code of conduct, Jahangir said the senior secretary of the Home Ministry has already met the Commission, while the Inspector General of Police (IGP) informed it of the overall situation, saying the country's law and order situation is under control.
He said as some candidates have breached the electoral code of conduct, EC election probe committee has summoned them.
