The nationwide strict lockdown imposed by the government has put a stagnation in people’s normal life. To curb the virus, the government has made sure that people stay at their homes. However, for the rarely mentioned frontline fighters like city cleaners, lockdown has not put any effect.

Cleaners and waste disposers under the North and South city corporations continue working regularly, cleaning roads and picking up garbage from houses in the difficult time of the pandemic. They work under strict guidelines but still remain at risk of contracting with the virus. According to the authorities of Primary Waste Collection Service Provider (PCSPs), all workers are provided with masks and gloves on a regular basis.

Government should give them

extra monetary incentive for

working during this testing time

These frontline warriors are at a high risk of getting infected with the virus. Therefore, government should do more for them so that they do not get infected while doing this great deed for us amid this deadly pandemic. They should be regularly tested for covid. Government should also give them extra monetary incentive for working during this testing time.

Government should provide them with extensive adequate and safer work training  so that they do not get injured or get sick while working. Our city cleaners, swippers and waste collectors must be provided with more care, support and attention from both the authorities concerned and from us as well. This is because we are the ones who are greatly benefitted from the service they provide to us.
