The Jagannath University Teachers' Association has claimed that there was no incident of insult or harassment in the academic council meeting. The association explained the incident in a statement sent to media.
President Ainul Islam and general secretary Lutfar Rahman signed the statement.
“While speaking, Professor Abdul Quader, Chairman of the geography and environment department continued to make non-agenda statements at one stage of his speech at the academy council meeting on last Thursday. He creates an exciting and unexpected atmosphere by slaping the table. Then the present colleagues asked him to calm down and at one stage some colleagues asked him to sit on the seat by holding his hand. Later, Professor Quader realized his own mistake and apologized to everyone present at the meeting. Then the Vice-Chancellor duly conducted the meeting” according to statement.
“We want to say very strongly that no insult or harassment happened in that council meeting. The general teachers of Jagannath University are observing the matter with concern as it is a ploy to divert the admission movement to different sectors in the ongoing process. The matter was settled in that meeting, the teachers' association is shocked by the mudslinging of the matter and is strongly protesting against it. The teaching family of 700 members is united in the movement to protect the dignity and academic freedom of Jagannath University” the statement added.
Ainul Islam, president of the teachers' association, told the media that the matter was deliberately exaggerated and not presented correctly in various media.
