A day after announcement of the proposed budget, there was a mixed reaction from buyers and traders in the capital’s kitchen markets in regard to commodity prices.
Except for price of edible oil, prices of most commodities remained stable, visits to several kitchen markets in the city on Friday and late Thursday revealed.
Buyers have expressed their dissatisfaction over price hike of edible oil which went up by Tk 7 per liter. Meanwhile, traders informed that proposed budget made no significant effect on the prices of the commodities.
Besides edible oil, price of broiler chicken has also gone up while prices of varieties of rice and vegetables have fallen.
Cucumbers are being sold at Tk 70 per kg in these markets. Eggplant is being sold at Tk 80 per kg. Tomatoes are being sold at Tk 80, bitter gourd at Tk 60, pumpkin at Tk 50 per kg, snake gourd at Tk 40 per kg, yard long bean at Tk 60, green chili is Tk 80 per kg, and papaya is being sold at Tk 50 per kg.
Rampura Vegetable trader Yaar Hossain said, “Following the improved situation after the recent flash flood, vegetable supply return to its normal position. As a result, prices of all kinds of vegetables are going down.”
The price of edible oil is rising in the market. In the budget, the price of oil has increased by Tk 7 per liter. Although oil is sold at Tk 198 per liter in the market, some traders have already started to sell oil at Tk 205 per liter.
In these markets, onion is being sold at Tk 40 per kg and a fresh quality onion is being sold at Tk 45 per kg. Chinese garlic is being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 180 per kg, local garlic is being sold at Tk 80 to Tk 100 per kg, and Chinese ginger is being sold at a reduced price of Tk 90 to Tk 100.
Broiler chickens are being sold at Tk 160 to Tk 180 per kg in the market. Sonali chicken is being sold at Tk 260 to Tk 280 per kg, and layer chicken is being sold at Tk 270 to Tk 280.
The price has come down by Tk 2 to Tk 3 per kg. Miniket rice is being sold at Tk 67 to Tk 70 per kg. Atosh rice is being sold at Tk 52 after a sharp reduce by Tk 3 per kg. Nazirshail rice is being sold at a reduced price of Tk 70 to Tk 75 rupees.
