No illegal clinic, hospital will be allowed to operate: Health Minister

Health Minister of Bangladesh Zahid Maleque has said,' No one will be allowed to play with the lives of people by opening illegal and unregistered hospital-clinics. No business will be allowed by the name of health services of the people. For this reason, nearly 2,000 hospitals-clinics have been closed and the drive will continue'.  

Health Minister Zahid Mealeque was speaking with the journalists during his visit to Rajshahi Sadar Hospital on Thursday morning. 

In answer to a query that many non-governmental hospitals and clinics are continuing their operations in reality though those appear to be closed, the Health Minister said, ' We'll see that. 

The hospitals and clinics which have been closed for the want of adequate machinery and manpower, if they fail to me the criteria, those will be kept closed and shut down.' 

Health Minister visited Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Wednesday night and noticed some shortages of manpower there. He directed to fill up the manpower through outsourcing and through recruitment. 

More than double patients than the total capacity are admitted to RMCH hospital. The capacity of the hospital will be increased through vertical extension of the buildings, the minister mentioned. 

Regarding Rajshahi Sadar Hospital, Health Minister said,'The government wants to reopen the Sadar Hospital where common patients will get their treatment and the existing Dental unit will also continue its service there.' 

He further said, he will exchange views with all concerns about what to do in this connection and for this purpose he was visiting Rajshahi.'

Health Minister was accompanied, among others, by DG Health Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Divisional Health Director Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Principal of RMCH Dr Naoshad Ali and Director of RMCH Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani.
