Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Thursday asked the law enforcement agencies to strictly monitor so that no gathering can take place around the polling centers. At the same, he also discouraged people to come to the city, if it’s not necessary.

He was speaking at a press briefing at Election Commission (EC) office about the capital’s two city corporation election. While replying to a question a journalist about the militant gathering by BNP, he said, EC does not have any specific information regarding this issue.

“We asked the law enforcement agencies to take care of this issue. They can only suspect but final work will be conducted by the law enforcement agencies”, he added.

Claiming the electoral environment is better than the previous year, he said, candidates are continuing their electoral campaign smoothly, voters also returning to the city living outside. They are spontaneously participating in the campaign of their preferred mayoral candidate.

While replying to another question about the foreign diplomats, EC replied, “They wanted to know our preparation and position. We explained everything to them which makes them happy”.

About the Awami League (AL) meeting Huda said, “We were not informed about the AL meeting. While another party knocks us about their meeting, we inspect and found they were conducting Mujib Year meeting, they did not conduct anything city poll-related”.
