Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Monday said that the commission did not find any forgery or flaw in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) after doing a lot of assessments.
Moreover, CCTV cameras would be installed in all the voting booths, he added.
The CEC came up with the remarks at a briefing at his office in the capital’s Agargaon.
“We have to make arrangements to implement EVM. However, if we cannot implement it, then we will go for ballots,” he said.
Kazi Habibul Awal also urged all the political parties to cooperate with them to ensure a fair election.
He also said, “The current commission wants active participation of all parties in the elections. BNP is one of the major parties. If they participate, the election will be more participatory.”
“However, no political party will be compelled to join the upcoming national elections,” he added.
The CEC further said that a dialogue took place with two political parties on Monday to help make decisions.
Following the dialogue, the commission discussed about the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM).
“We have decided to hold voting with ballot paper in 150 seats and use EVM in the rest of the 150 seats after taking written statements from the political parties,” he added.
Kazi Habibul Awal said, “We have not only informed the parties but also the government about the views from the dialogue.”
