Many public schools in the country are said to have lost their land to grabbers. A group of land grabbers, who has the backing of an influential person of the area, are always active to grab the land owned by government primary schools since long.
The authorities of Naburkandi government primary school located at Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur district is facing serious difficulties in constructing the infrastructures of the institution as an influential quarter is trying to occupy school’s land. Different national and local newspapers ran stories on it in details. The influential quarter in association with their accomplices is building a concrete structure and kitchen and planting banana tree grabbing a portion of land owned by Naburkandi government primary school.
The headmaster and locals have already informed the upazila nirbahi officer and education officer of the matter and sought their immediate intervention to save the land, construction of a concrete structure on the land is going on, but local administration is yet to take any step to stop it.
There is no alternative
to oust the grabbers and
illegal occupants from the
government primary school’s land
Apart from the educational institutions, local influential, political leaders and musclemen are developing structures in the name various association, religious institutions, hut, business establishments and makeshift houses on the government land. Later, these organised grabbers through syndication and managing a section of officials and of land offices are either constructing high rise building or sell those lands to the vested quarters. These influential people and musclemen in association with local armed middlemen have also set up different structures like resorts and factories on the grabbed lands. Besides, many plots on the government land are being built for sale and many are on the way to be sold.
Everything is happening under the nose of the government authorities concerned. While recovering the land, the authorities concerned faced challenges at several times.
But, they must overcame every difficulties successfully and recover the school’s land. In this regard, local public representatives especially the lawmakers must extend their all-out supports to the deputy commissioners to evict land grabbers alongside legal actions against them. So, there is no alternative to oust the grabbers and illegal occupants from the government primary school’s land at any cost and bring them book immediately. We hope that the local administration would be successful in ousting the grabbers from the school’s land with cooperation of all concerned.
