On the backdrop of the Coronavirus turmoil throughout the country, neither Rajshahi City Corporation nor the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital has so far taken any advance measure to check the spread of and to treat the patients attacked with another looming epidemic- Dengue.
According to sources, last year Dengue spread in the country including in Rajshahi in a virulent form. Hundreds of people; children and aged alike, were being attacked with Dengue fever in a form of an epidemic and there was also a substantial number of deaths by being attacked with the Dengue virus. From late April, people started to be attacked with Dengue fever and it took the worst form from July. The number of Dengue patients started to rise continually at the hospitals and even 'Dengue Corners' were opened in most hospitals in the country to deal with Dengue patients. Like other places of the country, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and Upazila health complexes of the district also experienced a huge rush of Dengue patients daily.
Specialists on Dengue fever have linked the spread of Dengue mainly with the biting of Aedes mosquitoes. They also advised the people of the country to take precautionary measures to get rid of Dengue by remaining away from Aedes mosquito bite or by controlling mosquito menace. They also told everyone to remain alert from being attacked with Dengue and get an advanced preparation to check it.
Authorities of Rajshahi City Corporation then took several preventive measures to control the spread of Dengue but this year the RCC has not any advanced precautionary measure to check regeneration and spread of Aedes mosquitoes.
Sheikh Mamun Dolar, Chief Conservation Officer of RCC in this connection said, at this moment RCC was busy with the Corona. But, he said, adequate measures to contain Dengue will also be taken this year. Like previous years, the publicity campaign will be started to check the spread of Dengue this year as well.
Saiful Ferdous, Deputy Director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital informed, there is no advanced preparation for Dengue so far at RMCH but the kits and the team who deal with Dengue last year will be used to prevent Dengue and to treat Dengue patients, if any, this year as well.
