No DAE action against fake onion seed supplier

A filed level official of the department of agriculture extension (DAE) in remote village of Shailkupa in Jhenaidah had provided fake seeds allegedly to satisfy a private seed producing company. BARI Peaz-1, the Taherpuri variety of the onion seeds was turned as later on the demonstration plot as the farmer was not enough informed about the seeds. 

DAE upazila level officials in Shailkupa, district level officials in Jhenaidah and regional level officer at Jashore did not take any visible steps against the said field officer tiled as sub assistant agriculture officer (SAAO) of Sadhuhati block in Shailkupa in last six months when the allegation of changing demonstration plot onion seeds was brought. 

The farming of government seeds production activities conducted research by Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) or other research institutions might be reduced in the next seasons in the country, meant the concern persons or individuals.

Farmer Manirul Islam said local resident SAAO, widely known as block supervisor Kanaj Kumar has supplied the seeds for his demonstration plot. He was not aware about the variety of the seeds. The said SAAO has also hung a demonstration signboard on the plot stating as BARI Peaj-1.

The farmer said he believed that the variety was Later. But the people visiting the plot reading out the demonstration signboard had informed him that it was Lalteer, not BARI Peaj-1”. The demonstration activities started on December 10 last year, Manirul Islam said.

Famers Bachchu Mandal, Bellal Shaikh, Nazrul Islam Mollah, Kamiruddin and some other when talked, said the plot was enriched with later, where there was no trace o-f BARI Peaj-1. The upazila level officials of the agriculture department had visited the plots time and again and discussed with the farmers. But they did not describe the seeds as Lalteer, not BARI Peaj-1.

SAAO Kanaj Kumar said the seeds for the plots were supplied by upazila agriculture officer Sanjoy Kumar Kundu. Kanaj Kumar denied  taking any advantages from a private seed
