No Covid-19 death for 2nd consecutive day in Rangpur division

No Covid-19 related death was recorded for the second consecutive day on Wednesday in Rangpur division where the pandemic situation continues improving during the last two months.

"Earlier, no Covid-19 deaths were recorded on May 16 last and again no deaths on September 12, 13, 14, 20, 22, 26, 29 and 30 and October 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 12 last in the division," said Rangpur Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam. The number of Covid-19 fatalities remained steady at 1,238 in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 1,238 fatalities currently stands at 293 in Rangpur, 80 in Panchagarh, 88 in Nilphamari, 68 each in Lalmonirhat nand Kurigram, 252 in Thakurgaon, 326 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha of the division. The average fatality rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the division.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 55,172 as nine new patients were diagnosed after testing 287 samples of Rangpur division at the daily positivity rate of 3.14 percent on Wednesday.   "The district-wise break up of total 55,172 patients include 12,434 of Rangpur, 3,793 Panchagarh, 4,433 of Nilphamari, 2,736 of Lalmoni­rhat, 4,633 of Kurigram, 7,584 of Thakurgaon, 14,705 of Dinajpur and 4,854 of Gaibandha in the division," he added.Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of 2,87,840 collected samples were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 55,172 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.17 percent in the division.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 52,678 with recovery of 43 more infected patients on Wednesday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 95.48 percent.

The 52,678 recovered patients include 11,189 of Rangpur, 3,648 Panchagarh, 4,341 Nilphamari, 2,625 Lalmonirhat, 4,527 Kurigram, 7,227 Thakurgaon, 14,335 in Dinajpur and 4,786 Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the 55,172 patients, 42 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including six critical patients at ICU beds and five at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 52,678 patients and 1,238 deaths while 1,214 are remaining in home isolation.

"Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 42,64,116, and among them, 18,45,656 got the second dose of the jab till Wednesday in the division," Dr Islam said.

Despite the improving Covid-19 situation, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu suggested everyone to properly abide by the health directives.
