A Vice-Chairman of Bogura’s Dhunat Upazila along with the chairmen of 9 unions under the upazila have brought a no-confidence motion with a five-point complaint against Dhunat Upazila Chairman Abdul Hai Khokon, who is the acting general secretary of Upazila Awami League.

Mohsin Alam, vice-chairman of Dhunat Upazila Parishad confirming the information on Friday morning said one of the two vice chairmen of the Upazila Parishad and nine out of 10 chairmen of the Union Parishad signed the no-confidence motion. The motion was sent to Bogura deputy commissioner's office on Thursday evening.

The complaints informed that UZ Chairman Abdul Hai Khokon is the President of the UZ Parishad. He did not attend the monthly coordination meetings of the UZ Parishad in December, January and February. Due to the lack of his signature, the ADP, TR, Kabikha, Kabita, old age allowance, widow allowance, maternity allowance as well as work of JICA project and development project of the revenue sector running under Dhunat UZ parishad are being hampered severely.

Meanwhile, due to his absence from the monthly meetings, Tk 30 lakh sanctioned for the mosque and temple based development project have been returned to the government fund and money allocated in favor of several other projects are on the verge of being returned. The celebration of Mujib Barsho is also being hampered without the govt allocated money. Therefore, the chairmen of the unions filed the complaints against him, the vice-president added.

Dhunat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sanjay Kumar Mohanta said, “I have heard about the no-confidence motion against the UZ chairman. The UP chairmen have clashed with the UZ chairman over the division of government-allocated development projects. He has not attended the monthly meeting of the Upazila Parishad for the last three months. I have failed to reach an agreement with both sides in resolving the conflict, so the development works are being hampered. This matter has been informed to Bogura Deputy Commissioner”.

Dhunat UZ Chairman Abdul Hai Khokon when contacted said, “I am not aware of the no-confidence motion. I held a monthly meeting in last December. I could not attend the meetings in January or February, as I was busy with the municipal elections. All the projects have time to be implemented till next June. The allegations against me are false and baseless”.
