No compromise with airport security

To ensure safety and security of airports and passengers, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali has called upon everyone working at the airports to be always ready to deal with any untoward situation. 

He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of ‘Full Scale Airport Emergency Exercise-2020’ and extended section of International Lounge at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet on Tuesday.

He said, “No compromise with the airport security will be tolerated, at the same time, if anyone is found guilty and engaged with rules violation, they will be bought under strict punishment. Effective steps have been taken as per direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to improve the quality of passenger service at the airport and prevent any kind of accidents”.  

While talking about the latest airport security system, the state minister said, “Security system has been tightened at all airports in the country.  All modern security equipment including fire alarm system, dual view scanning machine, ETD, under vehicles scanning system have already been installed at Sylhet Osmani International Airport to ensure security and safety. Those will be installed at the all other airports gradually”. 

“Considering the convenience of the people of Sylhet, the expansion work of Osmani International Airport has also been started on the instructions of the premier at a total cost of Tk 2,760 crore. Under this expansion project, a new modern terminal building, cargo building, control tower, administrative building, maintenance building, apron, taxiway and utility station will be constructed. Once all these development work is completed Sylhet airport will be introduced with all modern amenities”. 

Mahbub Ali said, “In order to improve the quality of passenger service, the activities of all the airports of the country as well as Sylhet Osmani International Airport have increased many times more than before.  A safe and comfortable environment is being created by ensuring the safety of air passengers”. 

Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md. Mofidur Rahman, Member (Operations & Planning) MD. Khalid Hossain, DIG Sylhet Range Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, President Sylhet City Awami League Mashuk Uddin Ahmed among others, spoke on the occasion.
