Actor Zayed Khan is in his second term as general secretary of the Artistes’ Association. During this time of coronavirus outbreak the association is by the side of the poor and helpless artistes. A Mizan speaks to him about future plans of the association.
Many artistes are now suffering during this time. What activities have been conducted so far by the initiative of the Artists Association?
From the beginning, the artistes' association has been working devotedly for the artistes. Regular inquiries are being made. I am delivering food to everyone’s home. None of our artistes are unfed. Food is being delivered to those who are calling. So far, 300 artists have been assisted with food items and cash.
On the last initiative of the Artistes’ Association, I have formed a medical team to treat the artistes. There will be a doctor from 10am to 10pm. We have provided them a phone number, through calling this number the members of the association will be able to get first aid. Again, if someone is severely ill then they will be sent to the hospital by the association.
Are there any plans for the future?
Yes. As long as there is this period of suffering, our cooperation will continue. We will help the financially unprivileged artistes by providing monetary help before Ramadan begins. We have also requested the Prime Minister for cooperation. As long as I am working for the welfare of the artistes, no artist will starve. We will try our best from our behalf.
Dipjol, Ananta Jalil have stood beside the cine-people. There are many able artistes like them. As a leader of the artistes’ association what do you expect from them?
Many people have made name, fame, money from the movies. They have a responsibility towards film industry. I want them to stand beside the helpless people of cinema in this crisis. They can help, personally. In addition, artistes can help through the association. Either way, they should pay some attention to these helpless people.
Do you have any special message to everyone as an actor at this time?
The whole world is going through a crisis. There is no other option than to be aware in this pandemic. So, I urge all of you to stay home, think of your family and maintain social distance.
