After a long hiatus, the popular production "Nityapuran" by theatre troupe Desh Natak made a triumphant return to the stage on July 16. The 127th performance of this celebrated play was held at the Experimental Theater Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
Written and directed by the renowned playwright Masum Reza, "Nityapuran" is based on a monologue from the Mahabharat. The play features a talented cast including Mamun Chowdhury Ripon, Sushama Sarker, Asif Hasan, Hafiz Redu, Kamal Ahmed, Feroz Alam, Hossain Nirab, Salman Limon, Mainul Hasan Moin, Sushmita Saha, Meghla Maya, Ismet Zerin, and others.
Reflecting on "Nityapuran," Masum Reza shared, "A monologue narrative is a very small part of Mahabharat. But I feel the truth and power contained in this very small story surpasses the vastness of Mahabharat. While reading, it seemed to be a very close person to me. I have tried my best in my writing and brought it as a play on the stage."
The play’s lighting was designed by Nasirul Haque Khokon, with assistance from Faruq Khan Titu. Kamal Uddin Kabir planned the set and sound, while Nasiruddin Sheikh directed the music. Props were arranged by Pran Roy, costumes designed by Shahnewaz Kakoli, and makeup was planned by Subhashish Dutta Tonmoy. Choreography was handled by Md. Amanullah Aman and Bakar Bakul.
Desh Natak, a renowned theatre group in Bangladesh, was formed in 1987. Their first production, "Maharajar Gunoketton," written by Tapan Das and directed by Shamsul Alam Bakul, was staged on September 2, 1987. Since then, the troupe has produced 22 drama productions, both domestically and internationally.
