Nine families under lockdown after two children’s death

Local administration locked down nine families following the death of two children at Kamalnagar upazila in Lakshmipur. The two children, suffering from fever, cough and breathing complications, died on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Of them, a 26-month-old child named Habibur Rahman of Torabganj village at the upazila was suffering from cough and breathing complications. Two days ago, his condition worsened and he developed convulsions and severe respiratory complications by Friday evening. He later succumbed to the complications and died at Kamalnagar Upazila Health Complex.

Following the child’s death at Torabganj, the local administration locked three families down on Friday night. The administration hoisted red flags at the houses.

Nurul Absar, officer-in-charge of Kamalnagar police station, said that as the Torabganj child died of respiratory complications, we coordinated with the health department and locked down three families. We have learnt about the other death, but have not yet decided on any lockdown,” he added.

Meanwhile, another five-year-old child named Himon of Char Martin union at the upazila was suffering from fever for a month. He died on Saturday morning, while being taken to Noakhali sadar hospital, sources said. After death of the child, six houses were locked down.

Abu Taher, Kamalnagar upazila health and family planning official, said that samples collected from the bodies of the deceased will be sent to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).”
