Police detained 15 persons of an NGO, including manager of Thengamara Mahila Shobuj Sangha, in Thakurgaon town for violating government directive of abstaining from collecting loan instalments. They were detained in the town's Shantinagar area around 1pm on Tuesday. 14 field worker and the manager Wakil Ahmed, 40, Of the NGO's Thakurgaon Zone Office were detained at the time.
Police said the government has closed all government-private offices, courts, schools and colleges to prevent the transmission of corona virus. Also, all NGOs are instructed to refrain from collecting instalments of loan until the normal economic activities of the country are stable.
Disobeying directive, Thangamara Mahila Shobuj Sangha NGO continued the process of collecting instalments. On Tuesday afternoon, tthe workers were detained and handed over to a mobile court raiding their office in Shantinagar area of the town based on secret information.
The detainees confessed their fault to the mobile court, and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Sadar Upazila Abdullah Al Mamun imposed a fine of Tk 1,000 to each of them.
