The government of Bangladesh has been working relentlessly to bring the country out of the poverty trap. The unemployment level dropped and slowly the poverty alleviation process is going well. However, the pandemic somewhat dampened that progress. Now to thrust it forward, the government wants to focus on poverty alleviation for the fiscal budget 2021-22.

Now before the budget, the government has decided to spend around Tk 834.73 crore, which would be distributed this time among around 33.39 lakh low-income group people who have been affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic situation with Tk 2,500 each for every family through mobile financial services.

Job creation is a big challenge,

and it should be reflected in the

upcoming budget

Government targets are to alleviate poverty and bring the poor into the mainstream of society and they are working tirelessly to this end. If a successful budget is implemented by keeping the poor on priority, then their livelihoods will be improved. More new jobs will be created.

Accumulating productive assets in the non-farm economy and agriculture sector can certainly help in the government's cause. For the past few years consistently, the government has been increasing allocations in the social security sector to improve the conditions of the marginal people. That needs to continue.

There should also be a special allocation in the budget for slum dwellers living in various cities and towns. Focus should be there for the poor in rural areas and sufficient money should be allocated to create employment for them. Job creation is a big challenge, and it should be reflected in the upcoming budget.
