In a development shaking the Bangladeshi sporting scene, the National Sports Council (NSC) has dismissed Rafiqul Islam Newton, General Secretary of the Jujitsu Association. The controversial figure faces allegations of female athlete abuse.
The NSC, citing its authority over ad-hoc committees within sporting bodies, issued a dismissal letter to Newton on Sunday. This follows accusations of abortion, assault, and sexual assault levelled against him by players.
Newton was arrested by authorities in May, and the NSC is conducting its own investigation.
This isn't the first time the NSC has taken such action. Gholam Morshed, former General Secretary of the Tennis Federation, was previously relieved of his duties following bribery allegations from players.
